I took it in Bonares, on the edge of Rociana del Condado (Huelva), during a wildfire that had been flaring for three days. Each night it was declared out, but the morning heat brought it back to life. The fire was spreading through scrubland and a berry farm, among the homes of people who live and work there.

I can be there because I hold a certificate that authorises me to work on the front line with the EMA INFOCA and EMA 112 emergency crews, who regard me as their front-line fire photographer.

A Bell 412 shuttled non-stop between the pond and the flames. At the moment of the shot it had just dipped the Bambi Bucket, and the rotor downwash was whipping the water into a swirl beneath it. The fire was brought under control in about five hours, although a crew of around twelve stayed there overnight. That same day two other fires were burning about 20 km away, and the aircraft had to be split between them.

On 6 August 2026 a wildfire broke out in Niebla (Huelva) that became one of the most difficult the Infoca service has ever faced. It burned some 33,000 hectares across eleven municipalities in Huelva and Seville, forced nearly 700 people to evacuate and was not declared out until 21 August. Behind the figures are more than two weeks of work by many people on the front line, and that is what the video is about.
